Do you have an old storage or panel heater?
Storage heating began in the 1940’s and early 1950’s. All things electric were seen as modern and efficient.
Electricity companies were generating lots of power to supply domestic and industry.
Keeping power stations running was important so they needed to create demand for more power during the day, but little was used at night, so the use of storage heaters became a popular idea.
In the 1960’s the market grew rapidly and storage heaters were promoted massively and more than 10 manufacturers got involved. The market almost failed however due to the oil crisis in the 1970’s it grew again in the 80’s with the creation of Economy 7 off peak electricity. When the electric companies were privatised in the 1990’s the market then dropped again.
Since the peak in the 1980’s more than a million storage heaters were sold but this has since dropped year on year.
Virtually no storage heaters are being made or used in new homes, but replacement parts are still selling strong.
Modern electrical radiators
Electric radiators are now more efficient than ever. With Economy 7 being fazed out by some electricity firms, or just not being cost effective, it makes sense to look at the other options available.
Storage heaters, by design, have little control. They’re either on or off.
Modern electric radiators offer superior control, more heat dissipation, safety and are more fuel efficient. Not to mention, look nicer. If you’re looking to adjust or replace your heating system, get in touch today.
